Faith Has Metal In It

I think of Poe when I fly.

Not the raven.
Not the grave.

The fear.

The way the mind
can make a room
out of anything.

A cabin.
A body.
A sound.

The engine under the floor
beats like something
I am trying not to name.

My ears muffle on purpose.

I do not want to hear
the machine holding me up.

I do not want to know
how much faith has metal in it.

So I write.

Because when I am afraid
I need somewhere
to put my hands.

I need the page
to take what my body
keeps trying to become.

Outside, the clouds pass
like pages
no one has confessed on yet.

White.
Unwritten.
Too beautiful to trust.

Maybe this is why
I think of Poe:

because he knew fear
was not only the dark

but the mind
making meaning
out of every sound
it cannot survive.

So I give the sound
a sentence.

I give the fear
a place to stand
that is not my chest.

I write
until the engine
is only an engine

until the clouds
are only clouds

until the fear inside me
stops pacing

and sits down.

I likely write because I’m afraid too ❤️

“Title: Pay attention to me, please”

A fear that can be penned,
Is a fear that is under your control,
It comes to paralyse yet ends
In paragraphs huffed by a poetic soul

It is creativity when creativity is in paranoia ,
Allowed to dictate instead of being dictated to,
And once the pen and paper is picked up,
    Creative paranoia because poetic paragraphs

Maybe fears come to plead “please order me”
    “Leave me not in chaos”
    “Teach me submission”

Terrifying masters are always not so
Sometimes they are just lost souls,
    Seeking mastery

    And maybe,
That is the gift of writing,
To bod the beast , black and bleak,
Breathing beneath the brain and breast,
    Right back to blank pages,
So the mind and heart ,
    Can experience the serenity,
Of being free of a nagging lost soul,
Ever screaming ” please pay attention to me”

And the faith with metal in it,
Is the faith that forms fear in flesh,
Seen, acknowledged and left on pages,
As a witness that echoes ” It came,
I saw it, I did not allow it to paralyse me,
    Because I realized , I made it”
